Fox Valley Chapter Super Saturday Mini-Conference
Join us for a day of fun workshops and educational presentations at our Super Saturday Conference! This conference is designed to fit into your busy life - most workshops are available before noon so you can get your continuing education hours without giving up your entire Saturday. If you're not ready for the fun to end at noon, an afternoon session offers several more workshops for an additional fee. Be sure to register before the deadline because registrations will NOT be accepted at the door! See what attendees say about their conference experience.

Theme: "Let Them Be Little"
Let them be little, cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love, every day.
Let em cry, let em giggle, let them sleep in the middle.
Oh, just let them be little.
So innocent, a precious soul, you turn around.
Its time to let them go.

Using Humor with Children: Everyone’s a Winner!
Begin your Super Saturday experience with a lively keynote presentation by Dr. Bob Kann.
Humor is a dynamic tool underutilized by early childhood educators. Humor can be used to build community, promote positive behaviors, cement relationships, reduce stress, defuse tensions, establish vibrant learning environments, and feel good.
In this engaging presentation Dr. Bob Kann shares some of the techniques of humor and strategies for developing a healthy comic mind-set. Any twenty-year-old with thirty years of experience working in child care will benefit from this session.
About the Presenter
Bob Kann grew up in Skokie, Illinois, but it happened so long ago that he remembers nothing of the event.
Bob attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, became a teacher, received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and later a Professor of Education at UW-Parkside and UW-Stevens Point. Shortly after becoming a professor, Bob realized that he liked making his students laugh more than he liked teaching them. He also recognized that what he wanted to next undertake was the challenge of simultaneously entertaining children and adults since this seemed limitlessly interesting and creative.
In 1982, Bob became a storyteller, juggler, and magician who began performing for children and families throughout the United States. In 1985, he realized that being a former teacher/professor turned entertainer, he had unique insights into the relationship between entertainment and education. Hence, he began teaching graduate classes and presenting keynotes and workshops for educators and nonprofit organizations on topics related to humor, storytelling, creativity, and motivation.
Bob believes it’s easier to climb the ladder of success when it’s lying flat on the ground. He usually can be found reading his favorite book on levitation. He simply can’t put it down.
Choose from the following five dynamic breakout workshops, including an Infant/Toddler track specifically designed for those who work with the littlest ones.
- "Great Teaching Ideas" by Dr. Bob Kann
- "WMELS and Our Natural World" by Angela Stoddard – Instructor, UW Milwaukee
- "Nutrition Habits in Children: Teachers as Role Models" by Rennee Tangwall – Child Care & School Age Coordinator, Heart of the Valley YMCA
- Infant/Toddler Track "Relationships: More than Attachment" by Lora Meverdan – Internal Pyramid Model Coach & Infant/Toddler Teacher
- Infant/Toddler Track "Book Bonanza" by Jennifer Zachek – Early Childhood Specialist, Appleton Area School District
Once again we are offering an optional Extended Conference session for attendees who can't get enough of a good thing!
Lunch and Roundtables
Extended Session attendees are invited to enjoy a light lunch included in the cost. This year's lunch will be box lunches from Honeybaked Ham and will consist of a deli sandwich with pickle and chips, or a fresh salad. Both meals come with a cookie and drink.
During lunch roundtable discussions will offer casual conversation, the exchange of ideas, and the chance to earn more continuing education.
Extended Conference - Make & Take
"From Playscape to Naturescape: Helping Transform Your Center Into A World of Science Discovery" by Andrea Bierbrauer – Naturalist/Early Childhood Specialist, Heckrodt Wetland Preserve.
